Strong winds, rain, and hail made for a challenging hike and scary yet exhilarating day in the mountains!

presi traverse dayhike
Part of a north-to-south presi traverse dayhike, Madison to Webster. Great conditions until just before the Mizpah hut, at which point there was some lightning and hail.
Beautiful day in the white mountains, some mixed clouds and a few showers, but no wind. View from summit was nice, but the last half mile of the climb was the best part.
Started raining at the top of the ravine, but there was no lightning so we went for it. Got turned around by hail once, but it calmed a bit and I went back up. Huge winds on the descent. Wild day in the mountains.

Second time was easier
This was much easier than my first climb here. The weather was forty one degrees with wind chill in the twenties and cold fog. No fiendish black flies in evidence like last July and no sun pounding on my back. Just roaring wind, near zero visibility, and a hard two and half hours up Airline to the summit. On the way back down I skipped over to the hut where they were shutting down for the winter. Met a younger couple at the ravine edge that were turning back; I wish I had taken you up there because you were well equipped for it. Hope you made it back for another try!

Warm Winter Ascent
Last day of winter, lots of sunshine and record breaking temps. Up Airline, down Valley Way. I definitely didn't need those crampons I lugged around all day!

Amazing peakKing Ravine/Great Gully with Subway variation. So cool! Peaceful, undeveloped summit is the antithesis of Adams' larger neighbor.
