Took my 4 kiddos on this hike, ages 7-14, they all summited and was one of their best days ever :)
I'm on the road now but I will probably write a trip report when I have a chance. Just be aware that there are continuing land/mine owner issues and the public access to even the trailheads at Kite Lake (not just the summits). For example, on my return to town, someone plowed/built a 4' high and 8' thick snow berm completely across the road to completely block cars from getting back down (the berm was not there in the morning). Fortunately, I had my avalanche shovel to dig it out. Let's just say it took me a while to level it down for my Prius to pass.
One of the 4 mountains I summited during the day.
Great loop with perfect weather. No legal access to Bross.
Summitted Democrat and headed up Cameron before showers turned to thunderstorms. Turned around and headed back down, will have to save for another day!
The spent the night at Kite Lake and it was very cold; below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. I did the not Democrat because the weather wasn’t very good and when I was on the summit, it was all whited out. It rained most of the descent but I was wearing rain cloths so I was fine. Disappointed I didn’t hit any other peaks.
Really great to watch the sunrise from Democrat!
Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln, Bross.
Sustained 20-40 mph winds all day. Tons of people.
We enjoyed doing the 4, but glad it is done..
the 4 peaks via Kite Lake trailhead, with Wasatch Mountain Club group ...
3:36 elapsed time. We got started late (1:30pm) and saw several people coming down during the first mile. Windy, but not cold, and we got hailed on a couple times. Journey hiked until it got steep and hard and I carried her to the Democrat split off where Brita took her. Brita went on to Cameron and Bross, while I ran as much as possible while getting Democrat, Cameron, and Lincoln. Democrat was tougher than expected, and the footing is terrible. I got to the summit of Bross 7 minutes after they did. Coming down Bross on that slippery pea gravel with a 4 year old on your back with a dinged up foot is not for the faint of heart, but we made it. Journey was a little odd up at 14,000 feet, but was back to herself once we got down to 13,000. She ran once I let her out and impressively did all the stream crossings on the rocks all by herself without falling in. Fun day out, and a great day to conquer 4 14ers in one go!
Great day for the Decalibron! Went the traditional way up Democrat, then over to Cameron, Lincoln, and finally Bross. Fantastic blue sky day. First down.
the only climber in the entire circuit - great day , almost no wind
Report on Mt. Lincoln page.
Six am start. Beautiful morning. Democrat was definitely the toughest, but, overall, a really easy way to bag 3 official and one unofficial 14ers
Summited Democrat first on the DECALIBR loop. Not hard, but the most difficult of the day.
First summit on DeCaLiBron. Pretty easy - 1:12 to the top. Surprisingly, I was alone on the summit.
Part of a four peak day with Cameron, Bross and Lincoln
First mountain climbed. I found it tough, but well worth it.
A great hike, with a lot of wind that day.
