Winter ascent of Democrat
A road closure early on tacked on another 9 miles to the trip. Had just enough time and energy to bag Democrat and drop back down. It was a very cold morning!

good high altitude conditioning run
start of my Decalibron circuit in one day. This was good high altitude training for Pico de Orizaba. Landed at DIA at 9am, after picking up rental car and snacks, arrived at Kite Lake trailhead at 1:30pm. 1hr 45mins trailhead to the top of mt Democrat (with very little wind).

Kite Lake
The alpenglow high up on Democrat on this early morning was spectacular. We had no idea the weather would be deteriorating soon after, but held long enough to climb Cameron and Lincoln. This was my wife's first big Colorado peak. Yea!

"Ideologically speaking, I chose left and it brought me to Democrat". Summited via the standard route. Made for a great first climb for my wife.

Beautiful day
Perfect day for climbing. We only did Democrat due to the fact that my climbing partner (my daughter) just came from Hong Kong 6 days before. But the day was absolutely clear. A little breezy along the ridge but that is normal. Even later in the day the notorious thunder showers never showed up so we could have done all three with out rushing. Met a lot of nice people on the trail, including a Father and Son with their 4 Australian Shephard dogs (very well behaved, did not see them chase any wild life). Looking forward to next climb.

A very short day
Went up from Kite lake on the 4th of five days of peakbagging (Massive, Huron and Harvard on the previous 3 days)in the area to do the Decalibron but had to retreat from 14,000` along with many others due to rapidly approaching morning storms. Hiked down in thunder-sleet.

Camping in February
First winter camping experience! Really cold but totally awesome. Went with friends Luke and Adam. The day of the climb was really windy (50-60 mph!) but we made it nonetheless. I wish I could thank the wonderful lady working at the Alma Al-mart the night before. She was so helpful with conditions and food suggestions!
not so bad. VERY busy given that it was supposed to be closed - although ALL the signs gave the impression that it was open.
