These are excellent shells for non-abrassive use. They are very light, keep you dry except maybe in extreme wet, and pack very small. These are my choice for any non-technical winter trips. I have used these on Aconcagua (-5F, 40+mph winds) and many Sierra trips without complaint. They have always kept me dry, are quite breatable, and do a good job keeping the wind out.

I don't think the material is heavy duty enough to hold up to serious rock or ice climbing (or skiing if you ski like I do!). I don't glissade in these. For trips where I expect to be climbing or spending time on my butt, I break out the heavy duty shells. They may hold up to these uses, but I'm not going to trash them to find out.
