Designed for mixed mountaineering, the angled-shafted Cosmi'tec Ice Axe from Petzl-Charlet serves a dual purpose due to innovative design. The curved upper shaft gives good clearance when going vertical and is coated for improved grip, while a tapered recurve pick places precisely in solid ice.

Features:

The shaft has special coating for improved grip and insulation
When moving on an incline, the traditional spike and a weight-bearing grip facilitate safe travel
The hand is protected by the curve on the upper part of the shaft so that there is no contact with the snow
55 cm version can be used with the FREELOCK leash

Type B axe

Specifications based on size 55 cm.

Multipurpose ice-axe. It have helped me a lot to negotiate with complicated sections on the routes. I've used it for dry-tooling picking, where holds were too small to use them in thick gloves. It worked very good, as weight distribution is designed the same way, as in ice-tools - the tip of the pick gets loaded. At first, I thought, that it might not be very comfortable to secure the shaft in the snow, because of the curved design, but this function worked pretty well too; the same about self-arrest.

One minus - the long version (65 cm) could be a bit longer. I am missing some 10 cm, my height is 187 cm. Lenght is the only reason, why I put 4/5, not 5/5.

I am satisfied with overall performance.
