I have had three of these myself over a 10 year period and as a general all round compass for hiking navigation in the UK on the whole they have proved reliable and dependable. As a past Duke of Edinburgh instructor I have used them extensively to teach teenagers the essentials of navigation and have found their features and general layout helpful to this end, and would recommend their use. However of the ones I have owned and used personally only one was replaced due to wear and tear. One fell apart the bezel becoming detached from the baseplate, another the markings wore off quickly and all three suffered from air bubbles but in my experience every compass I have ever had suffers from this eventually.
