Crampon Modifications

by outofstep80 » Thu Oct 28, 2010 9:45 pm

So I have a pair of GRIVEL G14 step-ins. I would like to modify them to be hybrids for certain occasions.

Looks like I could just by the toe strap and use a short bolt and locking nut to make the switch. Has anyone done this? Anything I should be concerned about prior to doing this?

why not just buy a pair of hybrids rather than ruin a perfect set of g14's

Yes, this is what I mean. I'm not trying to ruin the crampons. The parts seem to be interchangable to me, this is part of why I'm asking. I would like to be able to put the toe bail back on when wanted. If I would jack that up taking it off I would not do it. The toe strap seems easy enough to take on and off. My leather boots do not take a step in which is where my difficulty lies. And I'm pretty poor which is why I would rather not buy another pair.
