Marking gear

by mbmsfreerider » Mon Dec 21, 2009 7:03 am

I need to put gear tags of some sort on my rock gear. I'm curious if it is best to just buy the premade tags or if any colored tape will do(I was thinking colored electrical tape)

Thanks

If you're fancy and like overpaying for specific-use colored tape, go for the pre-made labels. If you're like most normal climbers, just get electrical tape. Bonus points for cutting the tape with a scissor instead of teeth - the clean edge will take much, much longer to unravel. Make sure to pull tension on the tape as you make the wraps though - much better adhesion.

I recommend nail polish, its cheaper, easier, and lasts longer.

This is what I did, but is does rub over time, I need to reapply...

+1
Get a cheap bottle for $1. Hard to find any without glitter though.

Yeah baby Image

Have been happy with the durability of nail polish, also recommend a two-tone color scheme or avoiding more popular colors.

Idea #4: Pinstripe Tape from the auto parts store.

Idea #5: Electrical supply store shrink tubing. You'll need a heat gun for this one.

Bad Idea #6: Soak all your gear in a tub of your urine and dry carefully.

However, the 2 minutes doesn't factor in Modelo drinking time. Or does it?

+1 I also got stuck on trying to factor the Modelo's into the 2 minute equation.

I think we need a CAN count, not a CAM count. How many in the case pre-marking and how many after.

Personally, I like taking my time marking gear-I just tell my wife I'll be in the garage marking gear for awhile and then hang out in my man-cave with a few cold ones farting around with my gear.

I thought red spraypaint was for retired gear.

A simple sharpie ring does it for me. Stuff with enough space gets a "BW" as well.
