A hiker injured his leg on top of the Owl on Sept. 14. A Blackhawk national guard helicopter being in the area rescued him.

All the big talk of Dr. Weiglein, his dubious "clean up Carstensz program", his contacts with the Governor of Papua and senior officials in Jakarta seems to have come to nought. Wonder how he will report this and how his standing and credibility as a tour organiser in the Puncak Jaya (7 Summits) climbing community will be.

Fifteen volunteers from the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team were once again on the flanks of Snowdon this weekend. Dozens of mountaineers to clean up Carstensz's peak

It is being reported that Freeport Tembagapura Mine Manager John Mosher, john_mosher@fmi.com is now allowing mountaineers to access the peak via Freeports access road. This is a shift in their policy which has previously prohibited climbers from using the Freeport access road.

Well as I predicted a few months ago a guesthouse is now being build by Werner Weiglein who owns the Baliem Valley resort and other trekking organisations at Wamena and has substantive links to government officials in West Papua and Indonesia.

As expected Werner through his various companiess has been given exclusive management rights to the shelter and its subsequent profits.
