Figuring things out on your own

There's yet (again) a thread in the Colorado forum asking which is what, where it is, and how can I do it. It's starting to sound like a broken record - same question, same question, same question.

No research, no intelligent queries, just a general laissez-faire and please tell me what I want to know because I'm too FRIKKIN' lazy to figure it out on my own.

What has happened to us? Have we stopped ...

How long of a rope?

Hey guys,

I just took SMI's snow travel class and am now looking to cheaply get a rope for short roping type stuff. For a rope team of 2 (dangerous, I know, but not on glaciated terrain) and up to maybe 5. I was thinking about using a rope that I currently have, wich would be a 60m 9.5mm rope that I already have. It is 2x dry treatment so it should be pretty good ...

Pisco - boots and some other Q

Pretty decided on doing Pisco now. It looks like they do recommend plastic boots. Is that really necessary? I always have really warm feet. Looks like temps are mostly above 0 as well, so that seems plenty 'warm'. Wouldn't a regular mountaineering boot be sufficient?

Also, I'm planning on spending another week after the climb for some sight seeing. Any recommendations? It could involve some hiking but no more peak bagging.

Dismal fog holding pattern

The SF Bay area has been in a heavy daily winter inland fog pattern with limited visablility for over 2 weeks with no sun. Most people don't seem to mind. I know people in the northwest experience overcast skies for extended periods. I work outside and hike a lot. I guess I'm a whimp but it's really getting to me! Maybe I need a S.A.D. lamp our something.
Anyone else have anything to say about ...

Safer in winter: Telescope Peak or Charleston Peak?

I know, I know, it depends on the conditions at the time of the climb...

But objectively speaking, which mountain is less dangerous when there is a decent amount of snow?

Thanks.

2 questions

1) when you guys haul your 2' or 3' MSR picket or deadman anchor, what do you pound it into the snow with? Using your ixe axe seems like a bad idea. There probly isn't a bunch of rocks lying around to use. You don't carry a piton hammer do you? am I missing something?

2) is there any draw back from using an AT (alpine touring) ski boot on a regular downhill ski setup? ...
