Cell phones go dead

When I'm out in the wilderness... my cell phone is usually dead after 36 hours - even tho I never used the phone.

Has anyone else noticed this? I'm guessing - without proof that the phone keeps pinging out at high power to find a network.

2nd question - do rescue parties carry equipment to call lost hikers in the wilderness?

Snow in Big Bear?

Anyone know if there is snow on the road that goes out to Champion Logdepole Pine and Bluff Mesa Group Camp? I'm looking to do some easy snow hiking/shoeing this weekend.

Thanks,

Gusto

Hike/snowshoe near Salish Lodge?

We're coming to visit from Colorado on 1/15 and are looking for a nice uphill hike or snowshoe near Salish Lodge. Looking for a 3-5 hour trip; we're fit and experienced but would prefer not to lug gear and so would like a no-avalanche danger trip (and to leave the shoes behind). We've seen Little Si on this forum; any suggestions about this or other trips in the vicinity? Thanks in advance.

Best (in your opinion) route up Mt Greylock?

Hey folks... just starting to get serious about my hiking and decided to highpoint New England over the next couple of years (Washington last, of course).

First goal is Greylock in the late spring unless conditions push it out a bit. In the opinion of the folks who know Greylock, what is the favorite route up? Distance or grade don't bother me, at least not on Greylock. I'm going to have to find a place ...

Millet Alpinist GTX

Hi

first post :)

Has anyone used the Millet Alpinist GTX boot? and how do they compare to the La Sportiva Nepal?

How comfortable are these for trekking and trails before hitting technical parts? and again how do they compare to the Nepal?

Many Thanks

Kili Price Range

Hey guys,
just wondering what kind of price range is reasonable for Kili. Rainier Mountaineering is my only frame of reference and they're charging $5,500 for the safari and trek...seems steep. Are there equally reputable companies out there that offer it for a much lower price?
