www.santiamalpineclub.org
they offer a basic 2 day mountaineering course. ropes, anchors on rock and snow. self belay, self arrest, etc..
they also do a 2 day crevasse rescue training every august on either the eliot glacier or white river glacier on mt hood. and then a 2 day ice climbing seminar, usually in sept. on the eliot glacier.
the mountaineering course is usually in may. it consists of 2, 3hr classroom sessions, then 2 full day field seesions. 1 at horsethief butte north of the dalles for the rock and rope sessions. includes rappel training and the opportunity to rappel off a 100 foot cliff! and the 2nd day is on the slopes above timberline lodge between the palmer and the white river glaciers. cost for this course is 75$. After you complete this you have the option of joining them for any of their cascade volcanoe climbs.
Once you have this down, you can then join them for the crevasse rescue, and/or the ice climbing seminar for free. Or if you have experience already (and can prove it) you can skip the basic course and join them for the crevasse rescue and ice climbing.
