3 avalanches take 3 lives on Scottish Peaks

Recent conditions in Scotland have caused surface hoar, something that is rarely seen in Scotland, that has sadly taken the lives of two men on Ben Nevis and a further man on Liathach, in Torridon after they were caught in avalanches. Two men were rescued in an another avalanche that happened in Argyll.

somehow I didn't expect it to happen in Scotland

There has been very unusually high snowfall in both Scotland and North Wales over the last week or more. One Scottish ski resort reported 1 metre of snow fell last week, (39 inches).

I think a little under half a metre has fallen in some places higher up on Wales, circa 18 inches. And a small avalanche has recently been reported on Snowdon.

Sad news. Actually avalanches are quite common in Scotland, nearly got caught in one myself a couple of years ago.
