You need a wilderness permit in the winter? We can do a one day trip.

That's true, you only need a wp in summer, but what worthwhile 14er can everybody climb in March / April in one day? Might as well wait for Bob Burds death march trip next summer !!

You sure you can make it up that big hill? You're not taking the mule route are you?

Yeah! Give this a try right here:

I'm curious to know others' opinions!

I would like to join the trip if timing works out, but plan on doing something low-key.

Southern aspect in March?! Eeeeeeeew!

I don't know what the southern aspect of the peak is like- I've never been there. Don't know what the approach is like. Anybody familiar with this? Approach from the S seems like it would be WAY more involved.

Photo shown is from the standard approach via Winnemucca Lake- lit up face is the E face, face in shadow to the R (with the obvious Crescent Moon Couloir) is the N face.

A place like Carson Pass is nice because you can spread out, take a different route, choose a different goal if you want. You don't need to get stuck with annoying and / or clueless people if you don't want to. Tuolumne has a lot of nice scrambles and short climbs. You can sess people out and see how they react, and decide if you ever want to climb with them again :)

I'm sure you can think of something suitable on the eastside .. Rock Creek area ? Isn't there a sno-park up there in the winter / early spring ? AL Hills ? Owens River Gorge ?

March 27 with a backup date of April 3rd...

Anyone have any ideas on how early or late or in the middle we should meet? With such an easy day (relatively) I don't think we're going to need an alpine start...

Last time we did this we all just posted when we were going to show up. Generally it was between about 8am and 10-ish. Carolyn also posted a radio channel for anyone who wanted to communicate via FRS walkie-talkie.

A bunch of us stopped for an extended snack at the rock formation below the north face of Round Top just before heading up the couloir. Some folks showed up later & skied.

The most crucial thing is when to meet for dinner

To avoid having to read 6 pages, what's the location again?

I would like to get in on this trip! Just bought some new snowshoes I need to break in. I live in the Bay Area, so let me know if anyone wants to carpool. :D

They must have gone to a MLC meeting instead.

Most likely coming. Having a specific hour to meet really makes sense. Will know definitively 5-7 days prior to trip date. Carpooling is preferred. Live in Marin/North Bay.

Between 6 and 10 am...

I sure as Hell am not going to be there at 6am. Make it 9:30. Why strip a gear getting there.
