Montbell Ridgewalker

by rruby » Sat Mar 13, 2010 4:36 pm

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Montbell Ridgewalker jacket. I've been doing some winter camping the last two years in the Sierra and out near Mt Shasta, and though my Montbell Versalite jacket seems fine, I'm looking for something a little beefier for winter pursuits. This last weekend camping out at Buckeye Hot Springs with the Sierra Club, the Versalite felt a little light as a shell over my down jacket while standing around the snow kitchen. Last year in probably the worst weather Lassen Park has seen in years I had my old Marmot snowboard jacket, but way too heavy, though it was a good barrier. Montbell's Thunderhead looks good, as does Arcteryx Alpha SL and Patagonia Stretch Ascent, but all another $100.

Thanks
