Sangre De Cristo snow level and conditions

by bdynkin » Thu Jun 02, 2011 4:11 pm

We are planning some backpaking and easy scrambles in central/southern Sangers first week of July. Based on CO snotell information it actullay appears a low snow year in Sangres. Looks like snow line now around 11K. Is it correct? Did I misinterpret things?

In general, what to expect at 12K during the first week of July? Lakes still frozen? Snow everywhere? Which slopes are snowier in Snagres - eastern or western?

Would appreciate any insights.

You can expect the snow to mostly be gone by July. Maybe some lingering patches in couloirs and other shaded/inset areas. Here's a nice trip report from last weekend - now add heat for a month and there won't be much left.
