Buck Mountain east face

by boisedoc » Sat Jul 20, 2013 11:30 pm

Wondering if anyone in Jackson Hole can tell me if there is any snow left on the east face. I am not arriving until late and was hoping to avoid carrying an ice ax and crampons if I don't need them. Thanks

Hey, not sure if this reply is too late, and i'm in Boise, not Jackson, BUT this webcam shows the east face and there is some snow still on the top pitch, and looks like quite a bit on the big hanging snow field.

click on the pic and it has a pretty good resolution and zoom.

thanks for the link to those webcams. Definitely looks like some snow left up there (surprisingly to me given how warm it has been)

boisedoc - have you been yet? Contemplating doing the East face or ridge later this week. Any update on conditions?

Still some snow up there, but not a lot. I haven't been up the route, but was near there a couple days back. Very warm here, the snow has been really soft.
Let me see if I have a picture to post.

Looks like I'll drag along the ice axe and crampons after all. Thanks.

aedwards- thanks for the pic. Blazin- I have not been up there yet. I was planning on driving over from Boise on Wednesday and climbing the East Face route on Thursday. I am currently solo and it would be great to have a partner if you are interested. Let me know. I was planning to bring an ice axe and crampons as well after looking at the pics.

boisedoc - Sweet! Would be happy to partner up. I get into Jackson Hole (with family) on Wednesday as well and was planning on hitting Buck solo on Friday. But if Thursday works better for you, I can probably swing that. Shoot me a PM and we can connect offline.
