Leaving tent at Mt. Elbert camping area

by Point North » Sat Jul 11, 2015 7:35 pm

Is it safe to leave your tent with stuff in it at the Mt. Elbert camping area, while you summit?

I plan to leave early in the morning to summit, then come back in the afternoon. Since this will be part of a CT section hike, I'll leave a lot of gear I don't need for the summit hike in the tent, some of which is high quality (expensive). I would think your stuff would be perfectly safe, but would like some feedback. Thanks.

I camped at the camp area near the trailhead back in 2011 and had no problem. Some older couple have me a slice of pizza for giving them info

Which camp site? I camped at the official camp area, left my tent up, and locked valuables out of sight in the car. All along the road in were tents left behind for the summit day. They do have mild bear issues. A rodent got into my tent and chewed holes in my sleeping bag.
