Skyline Trail twice in one day T/R 16,800 ft gain

by Cy Kaicener » Sun Nov 08, 2009 5:39 pm

Three people completed three Skyline trips each in a 24 hour period of glory and agony. This totals about 25000 feet of elevation gain. They were Rick Kent, Michael and Zippedydude. I am sure they will post a trip report later. In the meantime here is a trip report by Ze who did "only" two Skylines.

That leaves me speechless. Ok, not completely speechless. I had signed up to do the C2C for the first time yesterday with a group, but the trip was cancelled. I was astonished to see that some people were planning to do it twice in one day. That some people did it three times in one day is breathtaking.

25,000 feet of elevation gain in one day. There is really only one rational response to this.

I am shocked, shocked, shocked that Rick Kent was involved in this.

Awesome achievement. How many people have never done 15,000 feet or even 10,000 feet of gain in a day? Imagine 25,000 feet. :!:

One interesting challenge is that in order to catch the trams down, there is not an unlimited time or even a full 24 hours in which to complete the hideous 25,000-foot task. One needs to complete tram descents #1 and #2 and hike ascents #2 and #3 during the tram's hours of operation, in order to not miss the last tram down in the evening. The last tram down is at 21:45.

I talked to Rick, and he said that on the third and last 8000-plus-foot ascent of the Skyline Trail, he got to the tram station at 21:46. The tram had already left. I don't want to deprive him of being able to post the details of that.

He could have called in SAR and said, "I'm a marine out of water".

props to those 3. yeah I 'only' did two, but what a 2 it was. i'm sure there's only a handful of hikes around that you could possibly ascend so much!

Figures Rick was part. I did ENE of Lone Pine with him last year...don't know if I want to hike with him again. Well done all, nuts, but well done.
