The " fired " Herrenfels sandstone tower !
HERRENFELS (or " Rock of the Women " ...) : what for a beautiful and picturesque site ... This small and isolated sandstone formation, is located directly over the village of Dambach and the valley of Schwarzbach. The Herrenfels is situated on the mountain of the Modenberg (alt. 405 m). This small but marvellous tower of pink sandstone, is one of the most beautiful and sculptured climbing towers, in all the Northern Vosges area. This one seems to be standing up on the mountain, like a women ... And the rock seems to be so elanced and fragile, in an unsecured position : when we are looking the rock, we are immediately thinking of the fact, that this one will falling on the floor and so, totally disappear ... It's terrifying ! But, Wife Nature with all her power, is still today and for the biggest of our pleasure and sensations, keeping this natural monument in form, in a good health ! We can only hope, that this fact will be identic, for still a very long time in our lives ... Clap our hands and applause the nature ! YEAH !
