A honeycomb structure at the Rothenfels ...
The Northern Vosges are hiding an incredible number of sandstone formations (almost 300, for the total ! ). Many of them are having very picturesque and remarkable erosions or natural sculptures, like this one on this photo, which was taken at the Rothenfels (Philippsbourg) : this is a honeycomb structure, which is very typical from the neary region ... Too much neary rocks are having the same configuration of erosion ; the most important and remarkable of them are the next, in the order of interest :
- Hundskopf ( " Big Head of the Dog " ! )
- Ranschberg ( " Small Head of the Dog " ! )
- Rothenberg ( " Red Mountain " ! )
- Erbsenfels ( " Rock with the Hole " ! )
- Falkenberg ( " Falcons Mountain " ! )
- Steinbacher Wintersberg ( " Koetzfels " )
- Carlsfels ( " Rock of the Lindel " )
- Schloesschen ( " Small Castel " ! )
- Kandelfels
