Approach

This route do not have approach, the base of the climb is Plataforma (1,780 m), a parking placed where the road coming from Hoyos del Espino (Avila) ends.

See ALMANZOR MAIN PAGE / "Getting There" for further infomation.

Route Description

From La Plataforma go SW along a rocky trail passing to the left of a pluviometer. Then the trail is over grass and turns Swards to an ancient ski-lift stand, wich is left to the right 25'. Follow to the left shore of Garganta (Gorge) de Prao Puerto and cross to the other side of the stream. This beautiful place of meadows is also called Prao (from Prado = Meadow) Puerto 35'. Climb SE to the right of a little stream along more meadows first and between shrubs (piornos) second. The trail zig zags heading E to Point 2,126 m, left to the right. 1 h 25'

Once on the ridge line the trail goes to the left of Los Campanarios heading NE. Los Campanarios is a series of peaks with 2,165 m; 2,153 m and 2,144 m (in order of appearance). The only worthwhile peak is the first and highest. It's easy to climb from all the sides. Once passed Los Campanarios there is a little col (2,106 m), a little slope (2,114 m) and then another gap called Portilla de Pelucas (2,088 m). 1 h 45'. From there start an ascent towards Risco Peluca (2,199 m). This worthwhile peak is also left to the right (2 h) but you can climb it directly from the NW, once on its rocky ridge turn to the right to reach the summit.

Vereda (Lane) then turn left (N) to surround the next mountain, Molederas (2,241 m), wich is easier to climb when returning. So the trail describe a semicircle finishing near the Point 2,218 m, also left to the right. Straight ahead (SE) to a col (2,207 m) 2 h 40', and push forward along some nice meadows first and a stony slope second, to Point 2,306 m (also left to the right). Finally climb the even rocky N slope of La Mira (2,341 m). 3 h 10'
There is a rocky tower on the summit where the fallen survey point is placed. It's worthwhile to approach La Mira's SE face in order to see Los Galayos closer. You also can see Refugio Victory from the rocks placed there.

In descent (2h 45'), refill your empty canteens on Fuente de la Mira, a water source sited near the ruins of Refugio Arenas on the N side of La Mira. Las Molederas can be ascended easily instead of describe the semicircle on the N flank. The summit is not clear because there are many possible ones. Even Risco Pelucas is better to climb when descending because it requires a good effort.

Be careful not to mistake your way on this places:

- Molederas; the trail coming from Garganta (Gorge) Lóbrega, on the S side, links to Vereda de la Mira near this summit.

- Point 2,126 m of Los Campanarios; the trail coming from Puerto de Candeleda links Vereda de la Mira near this Point.

Essential Gear

Crampons and ice axe can be necessary in Winter. Also wear warm clothes and take a mask, compass, map and altimeter early in the season. Blizzards and fogs could be very dangerous so you could leave the way easily.

Children

Children

Children refers to the set of objects that logically fall under a given object. For example, the Aconcagua mountain page is a child of the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits.' The Aconcagua mountain itself has many routes, photos, and trip reports as children.
