Allen Mountain

The Iceberg Lake Trail yielded this interesting vantage point on Allen Mountain. The long eastern ridge of Mount Grinnell is in the right foreground. An enormous cairn is barely visible atop the third hump from the left (enlarge for better detail). The cairn marks Grinnell Point, a fun day climb that affords a classic view of Many Glacier Hotel. Allen Mountain's summit, over 1,700 feet taller than Grinnell Point, is in the background. A long ridge extends north (left) from the summit for over two miles to a small rounded summit (extreme left) that sits just behind the hotel. July 22, 2012
