Interesting ..

A friend of mine used to raise Barn Owls in
Washington state.

Of all the owl species, Barn Owls are the
most likely to be "tamed" to the point where
they can coexist with humans ...

even though they're STILL wild birds of prey.

Re: Interesting ..

Thanks Larry, that is a great piece of information. We would love to have a barn owl as a friend and also let her be out there hunting for her food. Unfortunately, we also have a cat. He loves to eat birds. I wonder if I should put a barn owl nesting box up high in the backyard!

Re: Interesting ..

Marc, you'd still be risking the cat's life
no matter how high you put the box, but ...

here's one case where the owl actually got
along with the cat - CLICK ..!

Re: Interesting ..

How Funny! I thought you were going to say "you'd be risking the owl's life!" The video is great. My wife will get a kick out of it.
Thanks

Beautiful sweet friends!

Ohhh, i love them; nearby my house there's a LIPU (LIPU is an association for birds'protection) "Raptor Center" and some years ago i partecipated in a release of two Barn Owls and one owl in Carrega Woods, a little little forest near Parma. It was a nice experience.
Thank you for sharing Marc.

Re: Beautiful sweet friends!

Participating in the release of these owls must have been a great experience. I will ask our center to let me know when they are ready to release these. I want to be there. Barn Owls have the prettiest faces and they are very curious about humans. Larry says they can be made pets at the same time that they maintain the wildness.

Grazie & Ciao, Silvia,
Marc

Oh My Gosh!

Aren't they gorgeous?! Do you know if the raptor center does visitors or tours? I'd so love to go in there!

Re: Oh My Gosh!

That's what I think. They have the prettiest face of all the owl species. Yes, The Raptor Center shows their permanent residence twice a year. They just had an open house to show their raptors two weeks ago. I think the next open house is in October or November of this year. But, Unfortunately, they do not have regular tours.

Marc

Where is the latest photo from an owl?
I am not crazy (yet hehehe), I think I saw a POTD of you hours ago...
A few days off, got my nail infected and it hurts like hell...
Cheers!

Re: Marc

Hey Paulo, sorry to hear about your infected nail. That has happened to me and I know the pain. It's pretty bad.
I deleted the latest photo of the owl that was a POTD. Thank you for your vote and I apologize for deleting it. Please don't ask why I did that. It's hard to explain.
