Bison Carcass, TRNP

Bison Carcass, TRNP

It will not surprise you to learn that this stank. Obviously, this carcass is not that old. We were there in mid-May 2010, so it's unlikely that this was a winter kill. The largest predator in Theodore Roosevelt NP is a coyote, which definitely cannot bring down a grown bison. So it's odd that this bison would survive winter and then succumb to natural causes in the spring.

Interesting.

It seems an investigation is warranted. Perhaps this fellow was cheating on his spouse and she got some revenge?

Unfortunate when families fall apart.
