| I live only 10 miles away, and love Black Canyon - it is great for cross country skiing in the winter, a great road biking up to South Rim (and the road to the river has the steepest grade in Colorado), good hiking, I don't fish - but Gunnison is full of large trouts, and of course rock climbing - scary huge walls, so I am doing only the easier ones (am an old lady after all). | |

| Drove around the South Rim and hiked to a bunch of the overviews of the canyon. Only had a few hours here, since we had to head back east. | |

| Begin to hike late morning with my family. Hiked the Gunnison Route from the Visitor Center on the South Rim. Did not run into anyone on the trail. Steep cool wall very quickly heated up on the afternoon. Bring lots of water! | |

| Hiked the Gunnison Route from the Visitor Center on the South Rim. Early start. Ispent an hour or so at the bottom. I didn,t see anyone until I was nearly out!! Very cool!! | |

| What an awesome place! Mostly a class 3 scramble. They aren't kidding about the poison ivy! We managed to get through unscathed, but took a lot of time just avoiding plants. Witnessed a climbing accident on the nearby wall, some protection popped out with a lot of rock and barely missed the rope team. Notified the rangers on the way out. Hope they all got out ok. | |
