Yes, it was a spectacular mountain! The size of the peaks has to be seen to believe. Imagine mountains as rugged or more rugged than the North Cascades (I'm from Washington), but much bigger. Some of the cliffs (such as the South Face of Lhotse) are 11,000 feet high!

Looks VERY impressive. Did you go there to climb Cholatse? This snow/rock rib looks challenging to say the least. How tall is it from bottom to the top?
I would love to visit this area some day...

Nope, since I was with my 10 year old kid, we "only" climbed to 5600 meters. We climbed a lot of "small" peaks in the 5000-5600 meter range.

About 1500 meters/5000 feet. The route to the right of the rib goes at VI AI5 5.9 A2. I don't think the rib itself has been climbed.

This face/rib is small compared to some in the area. The South Face of Lhotse is over twice and high and at least as vertical, probably more so.

I would love to visit this area some day...

You should. It's awesome!

PS, I accidentally deleted your last comment (I accidentally posted the comment under your profile and deleted the wrong one). I'm not used to this elf thing. Sorry.

Anyway:

"South Face of Lhotse is over twice and high"

I wonder if it was climbed before.

Yes, and it is the one that killed Jerzy Kukuczka.

Kind of like the Rupal face

The South Face of Lhotse has a reputation of being more difficult than the Rupal Face (though not quite as high as that one).

According to Richard Sale's book on the history of the 8000 meter peaks, the 1990 Russian route up the face is probably the most difficult route ever climbed on an 8000 meter peak. I'll be adding some more photographs of the face soon. We climbed Chhukung Ri and although it was only 5559 meters, it sits right next to the Nuptse/Lhotse wall. We also were next to the South Face of Lhotse when exploring around up to the Island Peak Basecamp.

Here is a photograph I just added, but 2D photos just don't provide any scale.

The south face of Lhotse is ~11,000 feet/3350 meters high (the photo is only part of the face).
