The climb didn't take too long after leaving the trail below New Army Pass. Raced the sun back to camp.

Wife and I hit Cirque in 2004. At the time, it was the highest I had ever been. Great views, nice trail, pretty scenery.

Came over from Langley and down New Army Pass. There was some rain on the descent, but nothing too serious.

A long, but relatively easy hike from the New Army Pass TH. A scenic area.

Went solo (again!) from 12k when my partner tired out. I went up the right side of the north slope. Mostly class 2 with a few mild class 3 sections. Had quite a scare when some rocks slid out from under me and a refrigerator sized boulder above me shifted a few feet - took a while to stop shaking. Beatiful summit. Came down the left side of the north slope, a few use trails here. Got rained on on the way down.

Ascended Cottonwood Pass and soon thereafter headed up the south ridge for the long traverse to Cirque Peak. It rained a bit while I was on the summit, which hastened my departure.

Strolled up to the top during a backpacking trip in the Cottonwood Lakes basin. We were camped at Long Lake and took our time heading up. Lots of people on the New Army Pass trail and around the lakes, but they were all focused on Langley - we were the only ones on Cirque all day. Plenty of SPers in the summit register - and not many others. Great views of the Southern Sierra from the summit - a great reward for a very moderate effort. Highly recommended.

Luciano136New Army pass loop  Sucess!
Date Climbed: May 12, 2007

Hiked with Peter (below). We did the Cirque Peak traverse loop with an alternative descent. For some reason, it was harder than expected; I think we all had some altitude issues as it took longer than other harder peaks I've done in the past. Although being long, the approach over NAP is downright beautiful!

Oh, yeah, as Peter mentioned, from NAP to the summit seems to take forever?!

Easy day hike via cottonwood pass. A bit cooler than I expected up high--it never got above about 45 degrees, while it was about 70 in the parking lot. Go figure. A burger at WPS afterward, of course.

From our High Lake camp, we took a route from the lake that involved some 3d class rock. Took us less than 2 hours. On the return, we followed the northwest ridge to New Army Pass and dropped back down along the switchbacks to High Lake.

Day hiked from Horseshoe Meadow. Left at 6:40, got back at 2:45. Super weather. Took a bunch of pictures, did something funny with the camera and only had one when I got back. It had to be that one

Desert SolitaireRoute Climbed: Traverse from Langley Date Climbed: August 12, 2005  Sucess!

Desert Solitaire

Interesting landscape at the summit plateau connecting Langley and Cirque. Saw a few jackrabbits in this very desolate terrain. Nothing tough, but just a long ridgeline traverse that was a lot longer than it seemed.

It's a slog over to Cirque from the top of old army pass.

It doesn't look like this one gets much traffic here. I made it to the summit on my second attempt, right after summiting Langley. I tried doing Cirque a year ago from Cottonwood Pass, but went the wrong way and had to turn back.
