| mrh | Quick trip Date Climbed: May 20, 1992 | |
| Just a quick trip around the area as much as the snowey roads would allow. Snow levels were very low this year, but still most the area was closed. Very beautiful place. | ||

| This was supposed to be a snowshoe venture, but the late fall meant that it was a walk in the snow and rock etc.. Sharon (wife), Mike and I parked clockwise from Watchman, walked up Watchman, went a ways back towards the Rim Village, doubled back to and past the car, walked around but not up Hillman, then walked another mile or so along the rim before returning to the car. Very light effort, seems almost strange to call it a summit. Nice views of Wizard Island, Thielson, Bailey and the Caldera. After being very familiar with the area in the early sixties, I was astonished at how perspective changes--never thought of it as "inside a classic Cascade stratovolcano" as a kid. Beautiful sky day. Will post pics when I can scan them. May have been the Saturday after the given dsate. | ||

| I drove through the night from Portland after work. There was nobody at the fee booth so I got in for free! Took a quick nap, and hiked up the Watchman to watch the sunrise. Next I scrambled up Hillman Peak (taking a far more difficult route than neccessary by mistake). After checking out the visitor's center, I hiked Mount Scott and headed for Newberry Caldera in Central Oregon. Crater Lake is truly a beautiful place! | ||

| cjwhat | Route Climbed: Garfield Peak and Applegate Peak Date Climbed: July 22, 2004 ![]() | |
| Took trail from Rim Village to summit of Garfield Peak. Then descended to south and ascended pumice meadows east to summit of Applegate Peak (see pic). From car to Applegate took me and my climbing companions (15 and 8 years-old) 2 1/2 hours. Note the Garfield Peak trail is closed about 300 feet below the top because people have been going around the snowfields causing erosion. It's easy to cross the snowfields and stay on trail or snow if you're not a tourist in tennis shoes. | ||
