"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, which is the most horrible thing in the world."

Eagle Rock RepeatAnother nice jaunt up Eagle Rock with my now-fiancee yesterday. Had to park above the creek and add a bit of distance to the trip, but found an easy descent shortcut down the south-southeast face. Highly recommend this little rock for first time "climbers" who want a little scrambling.

Southwest Ridge x2Nice little hike with good views. Easy warm-up and an accessible trailhead, even with a rental car. Soloed in May, then repeated with my girlfriend for her first summit on June 28th. Unfortunately, wildfire smoke obscured the views a bit, but it's still a great vantage point with strong rewards for the minimal effort expended!

Southwest RidgeThe day started out pretty miserable with high winds in south park and then our car didn't enjoy the drive to Eagle Rock. We parked a couple of miles away and walked. It was a lot of fun finding our way to the summit and the views were fantastic. There was virtually no wind up top and putting some distance between the car and Eagle Rock made it more of an adventure.

Southwest RidgeThis one looks harder from a distance, but once you are on it there are many options. We climbed the southwest ridge and then traversed over the summit and down the west side through a series of gullies and ramps. Biked over to Observatory Rock next and then eventually summit Baker Mountain as well.

Southwest RidgeParked our truck at the Ruby Creek Crossing (east of the rock) and hiked in to do the SW Ridge. Fun scramble. Buzzed by swifts on the summit. Great view. Ambled over to Baker Mountain "D" afterwards. Nice walk. Fun day in the hills, perfect weather.

Route: Golden Eagle ComboWe approached from the west trailhead, but hugged the west side of Eagle Rock and looped around to the north and used the "hidden ramp" to zig-zag to the northern false summit then across the little sky bridge to the summit.
"Eagle Rock" certainly lived up to its name today. As my head popped up just above the false summit to the north of the high point of Eagle Rock I saw, yes indeed, a Golden Eagle. I nearly cried, the sight was so amazing. Of course, instead of staying calm and sneaking out my camera, I exclaimed: Sweetie! The eagle!!! She promptly turned to me with an annoyed expression and took flight.
