Afternoon bonus peak after a highly enjoyable hike up Mt. Hoffmann that morning. 53-minutes car-to-car. Nice snow ridge lingering at the top.

Really easy and extremely rewarding ascent from Tioga Pass TH.

Ever since I visited the Middle Gaylor Lake in '99, I had been determined to go back and summit sometime. It was early July; this area was still snowy and the surface of the lake was frosted. Unbelievably calm, surreal, and beautiful - it was out of this world! I could never remove that image from my mind from the moment I saw it.

Many years later, I finally got back AND SUMMITED! I don't know why I had waited for this long, but I am glad that I went back after all. Better late than never.

While enjoying the second to none 360 degree of view on top, something immediately caught my attention and intrigued me - Dana! Just a couple of weeks ago, we were at Dana; then everything was switched. Suddenly, Dana seemed so "big" and un-real from Gaylor Peak.

We spent some quality time up there and had the summit all for ourselves. We then descended via the south side so we could get to the Upper Gaylor Lake and the mine.

It was a fun way down because of some easy & light scrambling. We had to slide on our butts across a snow filed in order to get to the trail down below. Everyone was giggling and feeling happy like a kindergartener. What a great time we had!

Gaylor is what I call "my little corner of paradise & not-so-well-hidden gem in Yosemite." Considering how easy it is to access this peak, the numbers of people who go up there seems amazingly low. Well, good for me. :)

(And yes, we must have been blessed. Right after we came back into the car, a drop of rain fell on our windshield. The next thing we knew is more rain drops dancing with thunder striking somewhere on the meadow. Only if we were leaving a couple of minutes late... )

A nice birthday tramp. After the EZ summit, I explored the Gaylor Lakes, Dana City and Granite Lakes. My most favorite landscape!

With a bit of free time to spare passing through, this made for a nice stretch to break up a long drive. PICS

Hiked to the top as part of a Glaciology course I took. Great views from the summit, but a 20 minute passionate lecture about everything from moraines to nunataks at the summit from the professor left me and the 15 other students freezing. A great weekend with a great group of people. TM is one of the most beautiful places in the world.

My annual scramble to the top, on a mosquitoey morning. Could hear thunder rumbling over Mt Dana, so moved off quickly. Love this hike!

My sons and I hiked up the south slope to enjoy the magnificent views from the summit. Great morning except for the mosquitoes.

Since the Great Sierra Mine was our ultimate destination we decided to find a route through the boulders of the northwest end of the peak. It was a little hairy at times but this was probably only the second dumbest thing we did all day.

The least intelligent thing was coming back through the snow fields along the west shore of upper Gaylor Lakes. Fortunately we all survived and have great photos to boot.

This was the first mountain that I climbed in Yosemite, and it's a good one. Easy hiking and great views. Not a bad beginner's peak.

Had an enjoyable scramble up this little peak... great views, but had to move off quickly, as a thunderstorm was starting to blow in.

Despite the ease of ascent, it really is a fine little summit with some great views. I have been up a number of times and have never come across anyone else on top. Most of the trail hikers head down to Gaylor Lakes (which are also a nice destination.)

Took a quick side trip hike up to Gaylor Peak on the way to see the Great Sierra Mine. Was a bit disappointed that the east side of Dana wasn't visible from the peak, but otherwise the views were excellent.

Sauntered up the trail with Uncle and Cousins visiting from back east. Great views of Cathedral Peak and Tuolumne Meadow. Just made me want to climb Mt. Dana!

Wanting to acclimatize as much as possible, I drove from the Bay Area after work, parked at Tioga Pass, and slept on the summit. Completely illegal, of course. Trip Report
