What a cool environment! All the pure white to the horizon. Beautiful.

pure white to the horizon

What I especially like about winter Uinta views is not just this hundred-mile depth of the view but the fact that the nearest objects which one can identify by size - i.e. evergreen trees - are several miles away.

In effect, there is no foreground. In the radius of a few miles around the observer, there is visual emptiness, and the sheer size of this white emptiness is underscored by the miniscule size of faraway trees beyond it. A kind of an airborn feeling.

Yes ...

I understand where you're coming from,
it is very wide-open and awesome wilderness.
I know very few people who enter this area
when there is so much snow. Usually,
everybody seems to wait 'till the snow
melts. Nice shot, the awesome emptiness of
the place, and the way Sharon flashes her
wonderful smile. Thanks for your contribution! Keep on smilin'!!!

That's one great reason to ski there, to beat the crowds LOL. Also no thunderstorms, no skeeters, and no mud :)

No skeeters ?

Yes, I think I like that part best of all!
Back in the early 1980s when my brother and
I did it, they pretty much sucked us DRY.
And then, a MOOSE managed to keep us from
getting any sleep, by producing a low, GRUNTING sound in the middle of the night.
And, I couldn't blame it on my brother's
snoring, either!!! What a wonderful place!

Re: wonderful area

Thanks Tomek! In mid-summer, the distances don't stop these places from teeming with backpackers and pack horses ... but off season, there isn't a human soul for as far as eye can see
