| Sloan | Jacob's Ladder ![]() Date Climbed: Aug 8, 2006 | |
| Parked at the gate at 6:15, followed the road to the "fallen sign", started up the Jacob's ladder route. Made the summit by noon, started down and decided to look for the Outlaw cabin. Big mistake. While the Jacob's ladder route is well defined, the other routes have long stretches of straight up and down trail; where it enters the brush the trail often fades beneath the overgrowth. Never did find the cabin, next time I'll begin with it. | ||

| Long but very rewarding day. Once you get past the lower elevation desert areas, the trail is absolutely beautiful. Very steep over the long haul, but a great peak to climb. | ||

| hiked from Alpine, through 2nd Hammongog and then straight up the bowl above 2nd. Got to the south summit and scrambled to the North summit - which was the sketchiest scramble I have ever done - the drop to the east was precipitous! Great views from the top. | ||

| Hit snow about the last 1500 feet. Used snowshoes as the snow was a bit soft and you'd sink quite a bit. Easy traverse over to the true summit across a little snowfield. Left at 6:00a.m. summitted at 10:45. We're able to glissade 1000 feet with alot of moving sideways to stay in the snow. Definitley not the 3000 foot glissade we were eyeing back in early May. | ||

| We recieved some directions from mockba on a way to climb up from big willow canyon. This was early in my hiking days and we got terribly lost. My brother and I kept summiting the ridges to the north, but could not ridge walk over. We finally decided to drop down to the west by the reservoir. We pumped some water and summited out of the valley to the south above Alpine. From this direction we easily got to the top. Afterwards we dropped down below and found a cool area full of cairns. After some more exploring we came down the trail of eagles cache which has no water till the bottom. Once to the bottom we had to walk back down the shoreline tail to out cars. 19 miles R/T and 16 hours. | ||

Route description was spot on! -07/08/04 Finally got on top of this great mountain. Super views of Salt Lake and Utah valleys. A favorite, can't wait to get up there again! | ||

| This is one of my favorite Mountains on the Wasatch! The first time I attempted it I made it however ending with seach and rescue coming after my friends and I because worried parents thought we had gotten hurt because we really late returning home. I have attempted twice more via Big Willow and Bear Creek but ran out of time once I reached the cirque. This mountain is an butt kicker but for some reason I always want to do it again! | ||

| Great fun!! Finally did it, took long enough. It is a killer hike with a spectacular summit. I went with Ammon Hatch who had the idea to descend Big Willow. Turned out we went down via Little Willow cause of talus. When we got to the Cabbin we decided to take a 30 minute nap then continue. We did the whole thing in about 10 hr's. | ||

| October '87 - Climbed with Danny Worwood and had to climb through some snow. One and half years later on May 13, 1989 I climbed it again with Scott Towsey. The second route seemed longer but was more fun due to all the snow and sunny conditions. Also the summit approach was more technical coming from the north rather than from the south. | ||

| Finally did this peak that has been haunting me my whole life. It was the hardest mountain I have done yet, but in every way it was worth it. Perfect time of year to do it. The weather was very cool. About the Little Willow descent: I did this in an attempt to find the most direct descent. Overall, it was faster than going back down Bear Canyon, but there were a lot of obsticles and route finding involved for the majority of the descent. Not easy. I think I'd rather do a big willow descent, but the talus turns me off from that. Been to the cirque via this route two additional times with no summit. Descended bear canyon both those times. Subsequent climbs: 4/26/08 - via Big Willow 8/01/09 - Up Jacob's Ladder, Down Little Willow (never again) | ||

| It was a long hike but a good hike. It was crazy at the summit because of static electricity in the air, our hair was standing up on end and when we pulled the camera out to take a picture we could hear the electricity passing through it. Needless to say we didn't spend much time on the summit. I disagree with many and feel that Lone Peak is not one of the more exciting climbs in the wasatch, at least not from the routes I have taken. | ||

| I had been wanting to climb Lone Peak for a long time. I always thought it was such a cool mountain. We started early in the morning and hiked up Bear Canyon Trail. We reached Outlaw Cabin pretty fast. We got to the cirque and hiked up to the summit ridge. The knife-edge ridge wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It was fun scrambling. We stayed on top and took pictures before we headed back down. It's a long hike but definitely worth it. I don't understand why the route from Alpine has such a bad reputation. I thought it was very enjoyable. | ||

| Easily the coolest summit in the Wasatch. From Bells Canyon was a long day, but fun - picking our way along the rugged north ridge. 1 short rap was required over one easy 5th class drop. | ||

| Though the details of the climb have faded with time, I made it to the summit via Bells Canyon on the first and only time I attempted to climb this mountain. Ronald DeWaal set out with me but fell behind. I attained the summit boulders well before he did. I had left the summit and was on my way down when I heard a loud whoop and looked across the way to see Ronald standing atop the summit boulder. He had tried to climb Lone Peak a couple of times previously and was ecstatic that he had finally made it. Whoopie! I own a burial plot in the cemetary of Alpine. When I finally pass from this world, I hope to be buried below Lone Peak next to my pioneer forebears. | ||
