Holy slog!
However, the ski run in winter/spring down this is quite fun!

Didn't quite make it as we ran out of time...Climbed with packs from Matterhorn Canyon to Burro Pass, then ditched packs for the climb...got to within 200' of summit and my parntner wouldn't go further, and we still had to return to packs and hike towards Mule Pass. And the climb seemed more like Class 3 at top, which I didn't want to attempt alone (I'm old!). Oh well...seems the story of my life with climbing lately...unless the base of a peak is near starting point, the approach will take too much time and wears me out! Oh to be young again!

Always fun. We camped too far east in the Horse Creek basin and as a result ended up climbing the couloir that is further east of Matterhorn Peak than the standard East Couloir route. This couloir is wider and steeper than the East Couloir. If you plan on climbing it, I would recommend HELMETS and might recommend: a picket or two and a light rope (for the faint of heart). The snow in this couloir gets sunlight exposure/turns soft, but it is steep. We ended up climbing out of the snow steep to the rocks on the right (straightforward class 3). However, there's ALOT OF LOOSE ROCKS on this line. If you trend further west to the more solid rock, the climbing may get you into some class 4 if you want to climb straight up into the ridge. Enjoy!

Great fun dayhike - after a Buckeye soak, and sleeping under a lone juniper, we sped up Horse canyon until the trail disappeared, struggled a bit keeping focused on the trail so ended up sidehilling scree before gaining the saddle. Excellent scramble (good footing) up the east ridge to the top, with hazy, thunder threatening views. Hail and rain on the way down to the saddle, but little lightning. 9 hours car to car, and oh what a day!

Camped at 9800' and summited this grand peak at 9am the following day with 7 other Bay Area Mountaineering Meetup members (Deann, Libby, Sage, Rob, Harish, David, Richard). Amazingly enough we had the entire mountain to ourselves.

Snow was continuous above 8250'. We enjoyed great conditions in the morning but the snow deteriorated rapidly in the afternoon due to the oppressive heat.

A long day hike with cbuelow. Did not enjoy the sandy slog just below the summit. However, a fun scramble at the top with some beautiful vistas!

This is one of the best summits in the Yosemite region. Scenic route and Matterhorn has that majestic look. There's a climber's path 75% of the route.

Long dayhike with Ol' Walsher ... the sandy SE slope was horrible. The views from the top of the Yosemite backcountry, however, were sublime...

Started at Twin Lakes, followed Horse Creek, and ascended the SE side. The rough footing on much of the trail made for a tiring but rewarding day

Up the creek, around the back, up some rocks, across some scree... Not sure exactly how we made it up there, but we did. The scramble to the top was awesome. The drive back to the bay area sucked.

Climbed all over the mountain taking the least practical routes (not on purpose!). Loved the scramble to the summit.
