Weißseespitze

Overview

The Weißseespitze is at the end of the road through the Kaunertal valley.
It belongs to the Weisskamm Ridge.
At its feet there is a ski piste.
You pass the Gepatsch reservoir and follow the only route to the park range at the Glacier Restaurant at 2750m.
From this point you can make a tour up the Weißseespitze North face and return back to the car.
The Weißseespitze is mostly climbed over the North Face Route.

Getting There

Getting there by Landeck, coming fom St Moritz ( Switzerland ) or Innsbruck ( Austria ).
The way through the Kaunertal costs 20 € toll, the parking place is your starting point of the tour.


Access route to Brandenburger Haus from Vent:
Follow the Rofenache (river) along the trail No. 902 (Central Alpine Trail 02) to the first fork at an elevation of 2096m. Keep to the left stay on trail No 902 (Titzenhaler Trail) and hike up into the Rofen Valley, crossing the Vernagtbach (stream) and other small creeks on the way to the Hochjochhospitz Hut.
Follow the Central Alpine Trail 02 to the Brandenburger Hut by crossing the glacier.
Time for ascent Vent – Hochjochhospitz about 2,5 hours and another 3 hours to reach the Brandenburger Hut.

Access route to Brandenburger Haus from Feichten:
Park Range at the Gepatschhaus, hike parallel to the creek until you reach the Central Alpine Trail 02 (Trail 902) and go left. After crossing several small creeks you reach the tongue of the Gepatschferner (Glacier), traverse and follow the trail up to the Rauhekopfhütte.
Stay on the Central Alpine trail 02 east of Rauher Kopf. This trail rises steadily across the Gepatsch glacier (Caution Crevasses) to the hut.
Time for ascent Gepatschhut – Rauhekopfhut 3 hours and again 3 hours to reach the Brandenburger Hut.

Camping

There is a camping ground in Prutz and another one wich is more quiet in Platz, called Camping Kaunertal at the Hotel Weisseespitze

The nearest Mountain Hut is the Brandenburger Haus (3274m) that you can reach by different routes.

Route from Brandenburger Haus

From the Brandenburger Haus to the Weißseespitze
From the Kesselwandjoch, south of the hut traverse the Gepatschferner ( Glacier ) to the southwest in a straight line as possible, climbing somewhat. Then turn to the west along the ridge ( it’s the Austrian- Italian border ) to reach thesummit.
Time for ascent 3 hours.
