Solo. Made good time until I hit trap door snow after leaving the road. Had left my snowshoes in the car. Had to skip South and Blaine to be home early.

Continued along the ridge to also pick up South Twin. Still a lot of snow and some deep postholing; especially in the willows to the south.

From Kenosha Pass. A very capable vehicle recently drove the road to above treeline, giving us a packed trail. We didn't need the snowshoes we hauled all the way up and down. Recommend a pole. MicroSpikes might help in a few spots but I didn't use mine. It was starting to snow as we were leaving.

Both North and South Twin Cones with Mt Blaine from Kenosha Pass. Its melting out fast on the road, I stopped short of the TH in the morning in the car bu a good 3/4 mile, but that same stretch was dry in the afternoon. Someone drove up to almost 11,400 so there is a good wheel rut to hike in to that point, then the snowshoes were handy for the summits.

TonkaSP Hike with Sarah  Sucess!

Perfect weather for this winter outing. No wind except for the summit and blue sky. Our choice to break trail and bushwack through the willows and rocks up to the saddle made for a fun, yet tougher day. Thanks to Sarah for showing us this off the radar peak.

What an amazing day!!! Sunny, surprisingly warm. Tonka and Krista joined Angel and me for a glorious stroll to the summit. Left the road before it heads into that drainage and cruised up the rideline to bouldery slopes. Found a smoother descent route. What a day. Those two Minnesotans are badass to come from low elevation and hike back-to-back Colorado peaks!

Long great ski with Tracy. Snow was deep and unstable near the summit. Turned around but still a great day.

Foxy Long Bottoms

Bryan and I began our ski from Twin Cone Road off of Kenosha Pass. After traveling approximately 6 miles, we ditched the xc skis and waded through the willows, heading towards the summit, attempting to avoid the lee side of the mountain. Upon heading up the slope we heard and felt a couple of "whomps" underfoot. The slope we were on was probably only approx 22-25 degrees or so in steepness, however we decided to bail, which was disappointing. We were so close. The ski in was fantastic but to our dismay some inconsiderate 4 wheelers literally destroyed the ski track on the way out. They bumped into the sides of the trail in several spots, scattering trees, rocks and dirt all over the trail. It was really torn up in spots, not just the snow. I have no issues with 4 wheelers at all. They have just as much right to enjoy an area as I do. It was apparent that this group was simply trying to see how far up the trail they could make it. They made it about 3.5 miles, where they turned around, tearing up the snow covered path and anything close. Trees were broken. The ground under the snow on and off the trail in spots was really messed up. In spite of the mess, we managed a 13 mile day with no summit. Next time. Happy B-day baby!

Hiked North & South Twin Cones and Blaine. A nice little solo jaunt. Didn't like seeing the high wind advisory signs on the drive to the TH, but ended up being not so bad.

Did N. Twin Cone as part of a huge 14 peak loop hike that took 16.5 hours. Summitted late in the afternoon as a storm was approaching. See TR.

Hiked North Twin Cone Peak, Mount Blaine, and South Twin Cone Peak from Kenosha Pass. Saw no other hikers, although did see some ATVers on North Twin while we were on Blaine. If I was to do this again, I'd probably drive past the first gate and park just past the second gate.

There was little snow to worry about, about the only snow was right near the summit of North Twin Cone. Otherwise the ground seemed unusually dry after so much snow this winter.

CMC hike. We started from Kenosha Pass and hiked the North Twin Cone Road almost all the way to the top. We left the road about a mile from the summit and snowshoed through a couple of nice meadows. It was pretty windy at the summit, not so much further down. We made really good time: about 7 hours round trip.

Great trail, total solitude. Beautiful sunny weather, very windy on the summit. Can't wait to do this in snowshoes soon!

Made the summit on a very, very cold and windy day. Pleasant in the trees, brutal wind on the peak.

A very nice hike with outstanding views of Front Range mountains to the north. A lot of great color in the aspen groves on the lower slopes. Maybe the best "color hike" close to Denver.
