Julius Kugy, the author,
was born in Gorizia in 1858 and died in Trieste in 1944.
He was merchant, organ player and pioneer mountaineer, known for his passion toward music,
writing, mountains and nice flora.
Pioneer climber of the Julian Alps,
he opened around fifty new routes and traverses.
He accounted his deeds in 7 books,
all of them written in German.
Aus vergangener Zeit (From the Days of the Past)
was his last book, collection of his philosophical thoughts, mountain reminescences and accounts of his contacts with oldtime mountain pioneers like Zsigmondy brothers.
Book is today counted as an antique item,
and can be purchased at antique bookstores for anywhere between 25-35 Euros,
depending on the book condition.
