+1 Unfortunately most mountain mishaps do not have a good ending. My condolences to the family and friends :(

*** Media - PLEASE DO NOT REPORT THIS. I'm wanting to talk within a community and not to the public at large here. The infiltration of the SP thread, CHAOS thread, and Facebook have made it very difficult to talk freely with this widespread community while maintaining discretion as to what is 'on the record' for reporters to print.

--------------------------

This is such a relief for me to see that what I did on the mountain for Tom, his family, and the rescuers was not in vain. The fact that the probe and pack placements assisted in Tom's recovery are helping me to feel better about doing all that I could before I left him.

May Tom rest in peace. He passed away doing what he loved, and our last few days together were truly something special.

Love,

Mark

Mark,

It is obvious you did all that you could and the SP community (speaking for myself) is here to support you. Most of all, the SP community (speaking for myself) grieves with Tom's family and friends. The poet John Donne's words (my approximation from memory) seem particularly apropos for climbers/mountaineers: "No man is an island unto himself...Therefore, never seek to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee."
