Kilimanjaro 2011

by WouterB » Tue Dec 21, 2010 12:28 pm

Anyone climbing Kilimanjaro in 2011? I'll be there from the 5th until the 20th of February, climbing Meru and Kilimanjaro.

I'm doing this one with my dad for his 50th birthday (he's passed that a couple of years ago, but he never went on the trip). He always wanted to do it and since he got the budget for it at his birthday, why not. It's a second seven summit for me, besides he got me into climbing but it's been ages since we climbed together. Not passing up on the opportunity.

I will check out Mt Kenya and see if we can fit it in our schedule. If it looks good, I might go back for it.

Hi Wouter, I am glad you figured out what I meant to say. Yes, perhaps try acclimatising on Mt kenya (Pt Lenana) before heading off to Kili.

Plan right now is to do Meru as acclimatization, but if I can find some time tonight I'll look into Mt Kenya.

Edit: Looks interesting enough for me, but my dad isn't in to any kind of technical climbing at all. Nor is my other climbing partner. So I think for this trip I'll stay with Kili and Meru. Flights to Nairobi seem really cheap though, so I might keep it for later in the year.

Nooo, point Lenana is not technical at all. Just a small scramble at the very top.

VouterB, You do not need to climb Mt. Kenya for acclimatization on Kilimanjaro. Mt. Meru is just fine.
If you need information you can contact with teriallen16@yahoo.com or at my address here.
I am a mountain guide there and can help you with so much information. I have climbed Kili more than a 175 times... Thank you and best of luck to you...
Point Lenena is not techical at all I have also done this mountain many times....
