This.

Disappointing to see that SummitPost still enjoys baiting the mentally ill.

I had a post saying essentially the same thing but it was deleted, I don't particularly know why. A shame, it was meant sincerely.

I don't know if Pete qualifies as mentally ill, but he has made a career out of baiting people. Read through his trip reports -- there are some downright nasty comments. You may not get how nasty they are, unless you know some of the context -- like his chiding of the "newbie" who died on Baboquivari.

I've met enough people who knew Pete in "real life" -- a few got along with him OK, but most considered him extremely annoying. He plays people, and this trend has gotten worse as he tries to live his life on the net.

For every time he was baited on SP, there were several incidents of him first calling people frauds, phonies, dumb. He cultivates a few good-hearted people who treat him well, so he can always fall back on their sympathy, then he starts in nasty attack mode, usually sotto voce at first, with incomplete sentences, so most miss it. Then he plays, "what did I do?"
