Occupation: retired geographer, Dept. of State A Few Words: Since I read Richard Halliburton's books sixty years ago at age 14, I have been fascinated with mountains. I climbed most of the famous peaks of the West and Mexico before I was 21 when I went to Europe in the army and got to the top of the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc. Since then I have climbed in the Andes (Huayna Potosi, Vallunaraju, Huascaran) and done two treks in the Nepalese Himalayas (Everest Base Camp, Muktinath-Kali Gandaki-Annapurna Sanctuary).
