Red Slopes and Red Rocks, Dawn [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Red Slopes and Red Rocks, Dawn
Looks best in "Orig."

A view west from the summit area of Red Cap, taken just after the climb out of the "White Gully" and onto the red upper section of the peak.

The peak on the left is Mount Wilson, highest in Red Rocks. The colorfully banded peak to its right (and just right of center) is Rainbow Mountain. Right of that peak is Rainbow Wall.

By the way, it's the land, not the camera, that's tilted.

Thanks, Tim-- I really like this one and might even get it enlarged so I can stare at it at my desk when I'm at work.

The land is tilted due to "geological deformation" involved with the Keystone
Thrust Fault !

What? Did somebody say "Keystone Beer???"

I really hope not. I wouldn't even drink Keystone Beer in college!

saintgrizzlyThe photo really isn't tilted?

—Amazing! Another question, Bob: What is the relief from the valley floor to the peaks? It's hard to get a sense of scale, but it looks...very nice!

Excellent job (as usual).

Thanks, Vernon! The relief is about 3000' in places, mostly at the southern end of the valley where the valley is lowest and the peaks are highest.
