Approach

From the parking place at lakes we reach Rif. Zacchi, 1390 m, in 1 h 15 min (road and marked shortcuts, No. 512).

Route Description

See full screen

From the hut we use the marked path first going in the SE direction, then it goes by the side ridge of Visoka Ponca more in the N-NE direction. The path is interesting, we move up by open terrain, overcoming a few steeper rocky sections. On some 1620 there is the first steel rope, steeper sections are also later secured. After one hour and half the path crosses the ravine, which is coming down from the notch between Visoka Ponca and Srednja Ponca and soon afterwards, 100 m higher, we reach the crossroads, on 1989 m.

The right path ascends towards the summit of Srednja Ponca (and later also branches - one branch goes on the notch between the two peaks).

Visoka Ponca / Ponza Grande W route

If we want to climb Visoka Ponca directly, we use the more difficult (ferrata B/C) left branch, which takes us steeper over rocky plates (steel ropes) into a ravine and left out towards a steep rocky wall. The hardest part is awaiting us. We must climb almost vertically over some 50 meters high wall. Some 10 years ago the ropes were there missing, but now they are renewed, and a few ladders are added. After the wall we reach a steep ridge, going right up, and by it in many turns the main summit. Very nice, but demanding tour (a medium hard ferrata, B/C). From Rif. Zacchi 3 h, from the lakes 4 h.

Essential Gear

Good shoes, telescope poles, ferrata equipment.
