Iris

The iris is among the most beautiful flowers in the world and is the favorite of many. The plants are important horticulturally and are of economic importance because of their popularity. These plants are believed to be named after the Greek word for rainbow because of the many bright colors of the flowers. Though there are about 50 genera in the family Iridaceae, this album is limited to those of the genus Iris. This group of plants consists of approximately 200 species in the northern hemisphere, most of which are from Eurasia.

Please submit your favorite Iris pictures here. The only rule is the species must be a native. No cultivars.

Re: Beautiful Album

Thanks. I'm curious about your yellow iris in the #1 spot. Do you know a name of that species?

Re: Beautiful Album

I don't, but I can research a bit into eastern wildflowers and see what I find.
