I basically worked out what I thought would be a theoretically ideal blend of materials and found these to be close. They have worked out well and the price is reasonable too. I use them all 4 seasons now (only the boots change). Very comfortable, few foot problems.

Whatever you get, Merino wool is the only wool.

Wigwam makes good socks. I have a few pairs and I wear them quite often even when I'm not hiking. They're very durable and comfortable so I take them everywhere. I've never had a problem with them.
