Because it isn't a climbing shop. And people that work at climbing shops usually have a clue. Usually.

This Bass Pro Shop does sell climbing equipment. I bought several Metolius cams there when they were on sale. However, a salesperson told me they had more gear stolen than sold, so they were probably going to stop stocking it. I believe they still have some stuff, like ropes and webbing, but not nearly enough for a standard rack.
