Hey artrock - nice to have met you on the trail on Saturday.

Likewise, while I didn't know it was you at the time Scott M., it was nice to have chatted with you too (near Loch Leven). Quite the impressive run to say the least.

Perhaps it was SummitPost day on the Piute Pass trail.......

Cheers,

Shawn

Nice to meet you too, Shawn!

Do you remember the guy we saw further up the trail? He and I also stopped and talked for a spell. Turns out that he too lives here in South OC (told me he lurks on SP occasionally, but hasn't joined because of all the drama... too funny! ) .

Regarding Horton Lakes Trail. There is no snow all the way to the top of Mt. Tom

Anyone been up around Conness/North Peak? Wondering if the NW Ridge of North Peak and N Ridge of Conness are relatively snow free.. :?:

Is that on the Class 2, standard route, up from the mine? Thought I looked over that way from "Mono Pass Peak" last weekend and saw a decent amount of snow on that face still? Although, perhaps I am mixing up peaks?

Any way to find out the night time temps? I'm just getting back into backpacking and climbing and so my gear selection is limited. I was thinking of doing Mount Gould this weekend but not sure if my bag is up to it.

Looks like lows in the low 20s to low 30s this weekend depending on specific location.

This point forecast for about 11,000 feet elevation around Gould should give you some idea (you can type in Onion Valley, Mount Gould, etc.):

Tried climbing Mt Dade out of Rock Creek this morning but decided to turn back at the Hourglass due to rockfall -- a couple of softball-sized rocks shot past a few feet away when I was a third of the way up the couloir. Pity, the snow at mid-morning was perfect for crampons.

Yeah the cl.2 from Horton Lakes, walking up the road. I hiked up to Gable Lakes a few weeks ago and could see the top of Mt. Tom the SW face and there wasn't any snow that I could see.
I also hiked to Horton Lakes about 3 weeks ago and there was very little snow even then. Driving by there this morning it doesn't look like there would be any snow walking up the road that puts you within 1000 ft. of the top.

Any recent snow condition beta on Dana Couloir?
Twice this week I've found great snow climbing conditions near Emerson Lake and the snow slope from Trail Camp to Trail Crest. Hoping Dana is ready too.
