This is video shows the tools used by the lead and by the second. I can tell the last one is a Grivel Air Tech Evo Hammer, but what are the other two axes?

Grivel Light Wings (variation on the Grivel Alp Wing, but without the rubber grip), I believe. No longer produced.

This piqued my curiosity, since those tools seem less technical than I would have expected. Then I looked up the rating for House-Anderson: a 'mere' 4100m(VII 5.9 M5 WI4).

Yeah, those are G12's in the video, right? I figured at least G14s for something like this. Not that I know any of this from experience, but horizontal front points seemed odd to me.

Is the tool with the adze an Alp Wing too? It looks about the same, just way more used.

I have a pair of the Matrix lites ( the tool on the far left) and I love them. A little IYF the hammer end is designed so you can inscert it into a crack like a stopper. I have done this a few times and really like how it works.

Did you see Steve House when he spoke in Bend a couple of weeks ago?

I'm in Bend as well, you know of any ice around to use those tools?

Actually, if you look carefully, you'll see that two of the Light Wings (as well as the Air Tech Hammer) have a Slider.

I'm at school now, but I'll be in Sisters for Thanksgiving. As far as ice, none in the Sisters.

The alp wings/light wings are great tools for allround use.Grivel really got the balance right in these tools i belive.I own a pair of alp wings and now i would like to purchase a light wing or matrix light so i could use the slider on it for plunging ability while still being able to climb leashless.The matrix light does not appear to be as good as the light wing,but i might be wrong about this.Anyone has done a comparison? The new petzl tool might also be good,but it did seem a bit flimsy compared to the light wing.Im also considering some dedicated leashless tools at the moment,but can not decide beetwen the nomic and the grivel offerings.The BD fusion is ruled out beacuse of pure ice performance.

Check out Simond Najas too. Better on steep ice than the Light Wings and lighter too plus they have a tool-less pick exchange system. No slider/horn though, that is a drawback to the Grivels.

The simond tools are not so common to use here.I have seen them in shops in france.Since i want to get the slider thing they are ruled out.Great pictures of real ski mountaineering by the way!
