Success on both.
Took an early flight to Denver; rented a vehicle; hiked Grays and Torreys via the standard route. Thunderstorms just about held off. Dinner in Snowmass Village.
Nice day, nice hike, I was going to attempt Grays and Torreys but I got to the split and had to turn around because of a bad knee
Climbed Torreys Peak via Kelso Ridge. Very fun scramble and awesome weather!
I headed over Grays and then back to the TH.
Beautiful weather, no threat of thunderstorms
My 2nd and 3rd 14ers. My climbing partner's 1st and 2nd. Sunny and clear all morning. Great day.
Climbed Dead Dog Couloir with Kevin (shknbke). Nice firm snow in the couloir made for a very enjoyable climb. Then we tagged Grays and took the trail down. Great day!
I was lucky...I saw more goats than people...go midweek in the fall...
Enjoyable, simple hiking
Nice snow climb, no-one else on our route or on the summit, though some skiers did show up from another route after we got there.
Beautiful climb on a crystal blue sky day. A bit of wind from the saddle on up, but another great day on a CO 14er!
Bagged an hour after Grays. Microspikes the whole way, but not necessary in some parts. Whole trail down was mushy snow from saddle onward (icy on the way up to Grays in the morning). Light wind, cool to warm temps. Perfect spring weather for these summits, couldn't IMAGINE better weather.
Still one of my favorite routes up a 14er in CO.
6/27/2010 - With Grays Peak
7/1/2007 - Just Torreys
Dead Dog, Emperor, Kelso Ridge all worth climbing/skiing more than once.
Did with a group of grad school friends back in 2005. Summited Grays after going over the knife edge to reach Torreys. Roped up for one of the class 4 sections. Fantastic weather!
