Even though it is very heavy for my standards for mountaineering use, this is the Rolls Royce of compasses. High precision, sturdy design and extras like the inclinometer and the pointing eyepiece really make it stand out.
I used it extensively during my military service. I greatly appreciated the eyepiece. I used to put a mini Chemical light on the bezel, cover it with black electrical tape and I could take bearings at night without giving my position away.
For surveying I believe someone would appreciate the level bubble, the inclinometer and the tripod mount. For mountaineering use I would opt for something lighter, except if I had to deal with a very difficult navigation.
